This 18-minute TED-style talk is appropriate for larger audiences, providing a general overview of the science supporting compassion and CnA's custom meditative practice.
It starts with the premise that compassionate behavior creates health and wellness benefits flowing in karmic circular fashion back to those who practice compassionate acts of kindness and love.
One means to help facilitate the practice of compassion is through meditation, and while there are many ways to meditate, our nonprofit outreach effort, Compassion-in-Action, Inc. (CnA), has developed a concise and easy to learn 12-Step Meditation Toward Living a Compassionate Life, using key letters, colors, along with specific gemstones to enhance a sense of well-being.
CnA’s meditative exercise starts with the 10-Step Alphabet of the Heart developed by Dr. James Doty, a practicing neurosurgeon, successful entrepreneur, and the founder and director of Stanford University’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, CCARE. It's completed with CnA’s unique addition, a 12th bead, to create the full 12-step track.
This TED-style talk will end with a hands-on, detailed, teaching of CnA’s custom meditative practice, along the free distribution of CnA's custom-made, signature 12-bead meditation strands to all interested people without limitation or discrimination.
This engaging 45-minute keynote style talk tells a compelling story of one man’s remarkable journey, Dr. James Doty, from a life of poverty, homelessness and low-expectations, to a life filled with great achievements; and above all, to a profound understanding that lasting happiness & contentment stem from compassionate acts of caring, connection and kindness.
The audience will hear about the Four Tricks which transformed Dr. Doty's life; tricks that helped him to become a neurosurgeon, educator, entrepreneur, and the founder and director of Stanford University’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, CCARE.
The lessons learned from Dr. Doty’s life relating to the importance of compassion to one’s own health are interwoven with the latest scientific research and increasingly prove why performing ongoing acts of compassion helps promote physical, mental, and spiritual health and wellness for the individual who practices empathetic-based behavior, regardless of their own personal situation, creating karmic circles of compassion.
This 45-minute session includes a more detailed interactive and shared meditative practice, along with the free distribution of CnA’s custom 12-bead meditation strands and related informational materials to all interested attendees. This keynote style presentation is ideal for small to midsize audiences looking for a more personal experience. It's inspirational and motivational for all involved.
This 75-minute session expands beyond both the 18-minute TED-style introductory talk and the empowering 45-minute keynote presentation to incorporate a longer interactive, meditative workshop, during which attendees will assemble their own personal 12-bead meditation strands while going through a personalized version of CnA’s concise and easy 12-Step Meditation Toward Living a Compassionate Life.
Attendees will get all of the substance, style and passion of the keynote presentation, plus an even deeper understanding of the health and wellness benefits of meditation firsthand, and will leave relaxed, in a Zen-like state of being.
Workshops are ideal for small groups, gathered in either classroom or circular fashion, and for those who want more time for the meditation portion.
All talks are audience-engaging, packed with solid references, and delivered with passion by a seasoned, professional-level public speaker, authorized by Compassion-in-Action, Inc., and are offered at no cost, as part of CnA’s nonprofit educational outreach effort.
Compassion-in-Action, Inc.
